Areas in and around Fayette were battered with large hail during the early morning hours on Wednesday, June 8. The skies opened up around 2 a.m. with hailstones as large as plums and accompanied by heavy rains.
According to the Ridgwell weather station, Fayette received 0.52 inches of rain during the hail storm. A total of .86 inches of rain were recorded for the day.
On the prior Monday, heavy winds and rain caused damage throughout area, with 0.94 inches of precipitation recorded that day.
Fayette has received 3.01 inches of rain so far for the month of June.
A year ago, Fayette and mid-Missouri received unprecedented rainfall. A total of accumulation 15.6 inches was recorded in Fayette which caused widespread flooding throughout Howard County. Roadways were washed out and basements were flooded.
In 2021, 6.92 inches was recorded, with 7.7 inches recorded in 2020.
