The GFWC Golden Study Club recently celebrated Missouri Day with the third grade students at Daly Elementary.
The celebration of Missouri Day has been a club project for many years, and is a state project for all GFWC clubs.
The celebration of Missouri Day began in 1915 because a school teacher in Trenton, Missouri, thought every teacher should spend a day teaching students about Missouri.
October was chosen for the celebration because famous Missouri author Mark Twain said that “Missouri is at her best in October.” This year the presentation included discussions about the Missouri and Mississippi Rivers that helped shape our heritage, famous Missourians, the big cities, caves, and Missouri state symbols.
Each student received a Missouri flag to commemorate the state’s 200th birthday this year.
