Only three of four open seats to be included on the April 4 ballot have been filed for by candidates for the Fayette Board of Alderman. Incumbent Stephanie Ford, along with Bekki Galloway and Peggy O’Connell, have filed. Ford is running for her fifth term as East Ward Alderwoman. Galloway and O’Connell are running to fill out their terms as Southwest and Northwest ward alderwomen, respectively. Both were appointed to those seats.
The long holdout was Southwest Ward Alderman Grafton Cook, who declined to seek a fifth term.
Cook was recently appointed to the Mid-Missouri Regional Planning Commission and serves as the board chairman for the Historic Downtown Community Improvement District (CID).
“I had the pleasure of serving on the council for eight years,” said Cook. “The decision comes with a heavy heart because it’s been a good experience.
“We’ve experienced some very difficult times, perhaps as difficult as the city has ever had. We have a group now that’s anxious to move forward.”
Unless a write-in candidate files by March 24, the seat will likely be filled by an appointment from Mayor Jeremy Dawson at the council’s first post-election meeting on April 11.
