Three Queen, four teen contestants compete tonight for Fair Royalty

Three young ladies will compete tonight for in the Queen contest, and four will compete in the Teen contest in the Howard County Fair. Tehya Sellmeyer, Murphy Quint, and Sarah King will compete to be crowned Howard County Queen. KatiJo Schaefer, Hayden Sage, Kadence Nicole Sulltrop, and Kalynn Stephens will compete for the Howard County Teen crown.

The contest kicks off at 7 p.m. at the Howard County Fairgrounds.

The returning Howard County Queen is Hailey Sage, daughter of Rick and Aimee Sage of Fayette. The returning Howard County Teen is Morgan Dix, daughter of Carrie and Derry Wiswall and Joshua Dix.

The annual Howard County Prince and Princess contest will take place an hour before the Queen contest at 6 p.m. Last year’s Prince and Princess were Croy Duren, son of Chip and Megan Duren, and Jenna Wies, the daughter of Blake and Sara Wies.

Queen Contestants

Tehya Sellmeyer is the 18-year-old daughter of Cary and Elizabeth Sellmeyer of Glasgow. Tehya is a 2022 graduate of Glasgow High School. She received the Volunteerism Award from the Glasgow Optimist Club. While in high school she participated in choir and received medals at state for a vocal ensemble and vocal solo. She ran track on the 4x800-meter relay team, and broke her high school record in the javelin throw. She also competed on the cross country team which placed second at state. In art she placed first at the MACC art competition. She served as Color Guard Captain for four years. 

Scholarship awards included the Glasgow Study Club Scholarship, A+ Scholarship, Choir and Color Guard Scholarship at CMU, Kitchen Messer Scholarship, and was named the alternate for Glasgow Alumni Association Scholarship. Tehya future plans are to attend Central Methodist University for Occupational Therapy. Her sponsor is Paisley BowTique and Floral Design.

Murphy Quint the 20-year-old daughter of Billy and Dr. Jessica Quint of Fayette. She is a 2021 graduate of Fayette High School and currently attends  Central Methodist University. In high school she was involved in Student Council, was the Student Body President, and as a member of Missouri Community Betterment. She currently serves on the Missouri Mental Health Task force to identify and implement a unified approach to resolving gaps in mental health services for students. She is vice president of her sorority, Delta Pi Omega, on Student Government Association, CMU welcome back leader, Athletic Training Student Organization, National Society of Leadership and Success, and is on the Dean’s List. Scholarships she has received include the Fayette Alumni Association Scholarship, FHS\CMU Unity Award, Missouri United Methodist Foundation Unity Award, A+ scholarship, and Hall of Sponsors Scholarship.  Her sponsor is Jessica L. Quint, DDS.

Sarah King is the 20-year-old daughter of Buddy and Sherre King of El Dorado Springs, Missouri. She is currently a senior at Central Methodist University and resides in Fayette. Sarah is a member of many campus activities, including choir, theater, Student Government, and the Alliance Club. Sarah will graduate in May of 2023 and plans to pursue her Master’s in Library Science degree. She is sponsored by Johnson Farms.

Teen Contestants

KatiJo Diane Schaefer is the 16-year-old daughter of Greg and Jessica Schaefer of Glasgow. She currently attends Glasgow High School. She recently received a bronze medal at state choir competition for choir ensemble, placed second in state competition as a member of the cross country team, and performed in the FFA Choir at the state FFA Convention. She will serve as the 2022\23 FFA Vice President for Glasgow High School, was class president this past year, and is currently on the Honor Roll with a 3.98 GPA. KatiJo has started her own beef and goat production.

Her future plans are to attend Northwest Missouri State University and major in AG Business  and take over her family farm. Her sponsor is Schaefer Auto of Glasgow.

Hayden Sage is the 15-year-old daughter of Rick and Aimee Sage of Fayette. She is currently attending Fayette High School where she is a varsity cheerleader, plays in the Falcon Pride Band, is a member of Student Council, and maintains a GPA of 3.67. She has been involved in Fayette Area Community Theater, and a paid actress with MU Rep Theater and had received Grand Award at Fayette Festival of Arts. Hayden is currently a Jr. Deacon at her church. Her future plans are to attend University of Missouri and pursue a journalism degree. Her sponsor is Carlyle Foley.

Kadence Nicole Sulltrop is the 13-year-old daughter of Amber and Troy Overfelt and the late Chad Sulltrop. She is active in softball and basketball, is on the honor roll, and has received the Fayette School Board Award for her GPA. Kadence is a member of Cherry Grove 4H. This year at the fair she will be showing market lambs and will enter a ham.  Her future goals are to attend college to become a Kindergarten teacher, and she hopes to one day open her own walk-through zoo. Her sponsor is Hudson Guttering.

Kalynn Stephens is the 15-year-old daughter of Jeremy  and Megan Stephens, and Erin Stephens. An incoming sophomore at New Franklin High School, Kalynn plays softball and serves as the Jr. President of her FFA chapter. She is the first chair tuba player in the high school band. Kalynn is a member of the the Academic Bowl team. Her sponsor is RLW Farms.
