The Glasgow FFA Chapter received the Gold Emblem Award this week at the 76th Missouri State FFA Convention in Columbia.

Chapter activity awards, sponsored by Farm Credit Services, are given to chapters achieving excellence in student, chapter and community development. The Glasgow FFA Chapter advisor is Jim Thies.

Glasgow FFA Chapter's student development activities include Area 3 Leadership Conference, a chapter pool party and barbecue, a chapter rat race, Alumni Scholarship Night, and job shadowing during FFA Week. Such activities encourage the chapter to develop individual and cooperative activities that will enhance students' life skills.

Chapter development activities include eighth-grade recruitment, record book workshops and advertising during FFA week. The chapter also participated in an officer retreat and a FFA pork barbecue.

Glasgow's community development activities include independent greenhouse operations, the Food for America Program, a businessmen's breakfast and a FFA Week food drive.

The Missouri FFA Association has more than 21,500 members. More than 7,000 FFA members and guests attended the annual state convention.
