Unity Award Applications Due Friday

Posted
Applications for the annual FHS-CMC Unity Award Scholarships are due in the office of the superintendent of schools by the close of business Friday, May 8.

First conferred two years ago, the Unity Awards are designed to assist a graduate of Fayette High School to attend Central Methodist College.

Amounts granted may vary, but generally the award is substantial.

One fairly unusual aspect of the Unity Awards is that they may be awarded to a person of any age who is an FHS graduate and intending to study (or already studying) at CMC.

Previous award recipients also are eligible.

Selections criteria includes extra curricular involvement, academic records, character, need and potential for future contributions to society.

Applications are available from the FHS guidance office, the CMC financial aid office, or the newspaper office.

The Unity Award concept was conceived and underwritten by Robert L. Siler of suburban Detroit. A retired food industry executive, he is a 1947 Central graduate and for many years served on the board of curators. He was principal of Fayette High School from 1948 to 1950.

The local selection committee is headed by Liz Brown and also includes Janet Jacobs, Larry Leech and Jim Steele.
