Lifelong Fayette resident Virginia Weiker, age 86, passed away on January 27, 2023, at Glasgow Gardens.

Virginia Lee Weiker was born on March 13, 1936, in Fayette, a daughter to the late William Pearson and Pearl Helen (Halstenburg) McKee. She attended and graduated from Fayette High School with the class of 1954. Virginia furthered her education, earning a degree from Central Methodist College in Music Education. On February 2, 1957, Virginia married Frederick “Leon” Weiker. The couple was married until Leon’s passing on July 14, 1990. Virginia spent her entire career in elementary education, influencing and teaching countless children. In 1971, she started teaching at Midway for a couple of years. Her teaching journey then led her to New Franklin, where she taught for 24 years. Towards the latter part of her education career, Virginia taught in the Fayette school district, and amazingly, she was still filling in as a substitute until the time of her death. Virginia loved spending time with her family, mowing, and tending to her garden. She was an active member at New Franklin UMC, where she played the piano for numerous years.

Survivors include her three daughters, Sandra (Kevin) Miller of Sanger, Texas, Sherri (Kevin) Dobson of Fayette, Missouri, and Susan Selway of Jefferson City, Missouri; five grandchildren, Tanner, Reagan, Paden, Ethan, and Kylie; six great-grandchildren, Rial, Asa, Rhett, Easton, Braxton, and Brantley. She is also survived by numerous cousins.

A visitation for Mrs. Weiker was held from 5 until 7 p.m. on Tuesday, January 31, 2023, at Friemonth-Freese Funeral Home in Fayette. A funeral service was at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, February 1, 2023, at Friemonth-Freese Funeral Home in Fayette, with Rev. Mike Keith officiating. Interment  followed the service at Fayette City Cemetery.

Memorial contributions are suggested to Daly Elementary Lunch Balance or New Franklin UMC, c/o Friemonth-Freese Funeral Service 174 Hwy. 5 & 240 N., Fayette, MO 65248.
