To the Editor:
Howard Electric praises rollback of EPA rules (June 18, 2025, Fayette Advertiser) sounds like a press release from the coal fired power plant industry.
Here is the real cost that Howard Electric should be concerned about. Emissions from burning coal cause tens of thousands of pre-mature deaths a year in the U.S. And the carbon released into the atmosphere from burning coal contributes to the global warming that is nearly out of control.
Instead of hailing a rollback of sensible environmental standards, Howard Electric should be promoting solar and wind energy. Renewable energy is the fastest growing energy source and the cheapest.
If Howard Electric is “committed to providing reliable, safe, clean power at the most affordable cost possible” electricity generated by coal fired power plants is not the answer.
