Rehabilitation work began this week on the Route P bridge between New Franklin and MO 240. The Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) will replace and widen the bridge deck at a total cost of $910,000 for engineering and construction.
The 214-foot-long bridge over Bonne Femme Creek was built in 1961 and carries approximately 650 vehicles per day. The supporting structures of the bridge are in good condition, but MoDOT said the deck of the bridge has deteriorated to the point it needs to be replaced. It will also be widened during the project from 22 feet to 24 feet. The bridge will be closed during the project, and motorists will need to take alternate routes.
The Missouri Highways and Transportation Commission awarded the $481,924 contract to Gene Haile Excavating, Inc. at its February 2024 meeting. At that time, a notice to proceed date of March 4, 2024, was also given. The contractor is allowed up to 85 calendar days to complete the bridge deck replacement and reopen the road. They anticipate Route P reopening on or before August 20, 2024. As stated in the contract, the job must be completed by December 1.
