Fayette’s streets and sidewalks will soon be patched where they were torn out for the installation of new gas pipelines over the last three years.
Moon Construction, of Tipton, Mo., is currently replacing the well-worn gravel patches around the roads and sidewalks left from the pipeline project. Some work had already been completed amidst the initial pipeline work. The current work is expected to be completed within the next two weeks to close out the project.
However, Fayette will still be left with a patchwork of roads and sidewalks. The recently completed city-wide sewer replacement project also left streets with large ruts and holes covered by stainless steel plates. And while all damage was repaired at the end of both projects, only the areas that were dug up were replaced with new cement. Coupled with neglected streets and sidewalks, the town is left with a shabby look at best.
New cement and old roads make for a mélange of surfaces that look as bad as they drive. City government and taxpayers will have to come together in order to clean up the mess.
