The Howard County Ambulance District is offering a free five-week class to become an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) in October. The class is free for anyone willing to make a three-year commitment to work for the district. Students will even get paid $16 an hour while taking the class.

Classes typically cost $1,000 to take.

The ambulance district has six positions available. Graduates will have immediate full-time employment with benefits, including health insurance, paid time-off, and retirement contributions. The starting pay is $16 per hour.

The deadline to apply is September 9. Classes begin October 7.

Graduates will earn an EMT license in five weeks. Applications may be submitted to the Howard County Ambulance District at 100 South Williams Street in Fayette. Questions should be directed to director Frank W. Flaspohler at (660) 537-4809.

In 2022, the ambulance district was approved by the Bureau of Emergency Medical Services as a training entity for the Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) course.
