Higbee-1
Prairie Home-0
For 16 years Prairie Home’s baseball teams have owned the Higbee baseball program. That changed on Monday evening in Higbee’s home opener, as the Tigers, on the strength of a combined one-hitter by sophomore Derek Rockett and freshman Robert Smith, defeated the Panthers 1-0.
Higbee notched eight hits including two by Rockett and a single and a double by senior Jamie Smith, who scored the lone Higbee run.
Rockett was superb on the mound, striking out 15 and walking only two in 6.2 innings of work.
Schuyler County-5
Harrisburg-3
Schuyler County went into Harrisburg Monday evening and ruined the Bulldogs’ home opener by defeating them 5-3.
The two teams were scoreless through three innings, but Schuyler County erupted for five runs in the top of the fourth to put Harrisburg on the ropes.
The Bulldogs fought back with two runs in the bottom of the frame and added another in the fifth, but it was not enough to over come the Ram’s lead.
Sophomore Carter Bremer paced the Bulldog offense with three hits while senior Trevor Smoot, junior Anthony Alicea, and freshman Isaac DeMuth each added one hit apiece.
Starter Anthony Alicea went 3.1 innings, striking out seven and giving up only one hit before giving way to sophomore Hunter Cole who yielded two hits in .2 innings. Junior Braden Ott finished the game pitching three innings, striking out two while giving up only one hit.
The bulldogs travel to Salisbury on Thursday. The first pitch is set for 5 p.m.
