Ice cream socials set for July 26 and 27

Two traditional ice cream socials will take place July 26 and 27.

The Roanoke Band Association invites families and friends to the Roanoke Band Concert and Ice Cream Social on Saturday, July 26, beginning at 6 p.m.

Under the direction of Jordan Perry, the band will perform from 7 to 9:30 p.m. in the Roanoke Bandstand located in north Howard County at Highways 3 and 129. Attendees are asked to bring lawn chairs.

Richland Christian Church will host their annual Ice Cream Social on Sunday, July 27. Country ham sandwiches, homemade cakes and ice cream will be served beginning at 5:30 p.m. Candidates are invited to speak. Richland Christian Church is located on Highway 87, south of Glasgow.

Academic honors

Malissa Larson of Higbee graduated from Kirkwood Community College located in Cedar Rapids, Iowa following the 2013-14 school year. Malissa earned an associate degree in criminal justice.

Morgan Westhues of Fayette has been chosen as a member of the President’s Twenty at William Woods University in Fulton. The President’s Twenty is an honorary society whose members serve as the university president’s ambassadors.

Accidents

A Franklin man and Boonville man suffered moderate injuries after the driver attempted to avoid a deer in Cooper County on July 8.

At 11:30 p.m., Dakota D. Tibbetts, 21, of Boonville, was driving west on the Sante Fe Road west of Ferry Road in a 2007 Chevrolet Aveo when he encountered a deer. Tibbets attempted to avoid the deer, traveled off the right side of the roadway and overturned.

Joseph C. Woodruff, 35, of Franklin was a passenger in the vehicle.

Both men suffered moderate injuries and were taken to Cooper County Memorial Hospital. Tibbets was wearing a seatbelt. Woodruff was not. The vehicle was totaled.

A Harrisburg woman suffered serious injuries after a head on collision in Boone County on July 7.

At 4:10 p.m., Jacqlyn M. Burgener, 37, of Harrisburg, was traveling west on Highway 124, one-quarter of a mile west of Route NN in a 2005 Dodge Neon when she crossed the center line and struck a 2006 International Cab and Chassis Box Truck driven by Larry C. Farris, 66, of Jefferson City.

Burgener, who was wearing a seatbelt, suffered serious injuries and was taken to University Hospital by helicopter. Farris, also wearing a seatbelt, did not suffer any injuries.

The 2005 Dodge Neon was totaled. The 2006 International incurred extensive damage.
