Community invited to decorate for Fayette High School Homecoming

Fayette High School will celebrate Homecoming the week of Sept. 15 through 19.

The FHS student council invites the community to participate by decorating their yard or business to the theme of “Team is on Fire!” Displays will be judged on Tuesday, Sept. 16.

Individuals or businesses who wish to participate should register by emailing Jean Monnig at jmonnig@fayette.k12.mo.us or calling the school at 248-2124 and leave a name and address.

The Homecoming parade will be Friday, shortly after 2 p.m., around the courthouse square.

Quigley-Duggan presents first CMU faculty recital of fall

Susan Quigley-Duggan, soprano, will present autumn’s first faculty recital on the Fayette campus of Central Methodist University on Sunday, Sept. 14, at 4 p.m. in the Kountz Recital Hall.

Quigley-Duggan is associate professor of voice and opera at CMU where she has taught since 2006. Her solo performances will include “Meine Seele hört im sehen” by Handel; “Fleurs” by Poulenc; “Cuatro Madrigales Amatorios” by Rodrigo; and “Chiquittita la novia” by Obradors.

For the remainder of her recital, Quigley-Duggan will have the assistance of CMU professors and alumni. Melissa Loehnig, who joined the faculty in 2013 as assistant professor of music, will play piano and harpsichord. Singing baritone will be  Ron Atteberry, who has taught at CMU since 2010 and this year is adjunct professor of music and director of the Church Street Boys.  Laura Wiebe, mezzo-soprano, who joined the faculty this year as assistant professor of music, will sing with Quigley-Duggan. Tom Arnold, tenor, a CMU adjunct music professor for some years who graduated from Central in 1979, will also sing. Dean of the Swinney Conservatory of Music,  Dori Waggoner, CMU class of 1992, will accompany on flute.Recent alumnus Donald Heaton, 2014, will perform on bassoon.

The repertoire will include a variety of duet and quartet selections by Stradella, Mozart, Mendelssohn, Brahms, Schubert, Massanet, and Stephen Foster.

Steele appointed to Boonslick Historical Society Board

Jim Steele of Fayette has been appointed to the Boonslick Historical Society Board, President Cindy Bowen of Armstrong announced.

The other Board members are: Sam Jewett, of Boonville; Vice President Paula Shannon of Boonville; Treasurer Tom Yancey of Fayette; Secretary Don Cullimore of Fayette (editor of quarterly magazine); Mike Dickey of Arrow Rock; Denise Gebhardt of Glasgow; Brett Rogers of Boonville; and Connie Shay of Fayette.

FPD reports recent arrests

The Fayette Police Department arrested the following individuals for being minors who were intoxicated on the dates indicated:
  • Garret Boquet, 19, of California, Mo., Aug. 23, 1:47 a.m.
  • Shelby Dodson, 19, of Fayette, Aug. 24, 3:20 a.m.
  • Patrick Reinkemeyer, 19, Argyle, Mo., Aug. 24, 3:20 a.m.
  • Austin Fuhlage, 18, of Fayette, Aug. 30, 12:40 a.m.
  • Briar McClain, 17, of Fayette, Aug. 30, 12:40 a.m.
  • Chase Bell, 18, of Fayette, Aug. 30, 12:40 a.m.
The FPD arrested the following individual for being a minor in possession of intoxicants: Cameron Green, 20, of Grandview, Mo., Sept. 6, 9:40 p.m.
