A Columbia woman was arrested in Howard County shortly before 11 p.m. on Friday for possession of cocaine and marijuana, as well as driving without insurance.
According to a report by the Missouri State Highway Patrol, Frances A. Cheatum, 61, was arrested at 10:50 p.m. on Friday and taken to the Howard County Jail on a 24-hour hold. At the time of her arrest, Cheatum was in possession of 9 grams of cocaine and less than 10 grams of marijuana.
Cheatum was pulled over on Highway 40 near County Road 437 after MSHP Trooper Johnson observed driving a Ford passenger car bearing a license plate registered to a 2013 Volkswagon. According to the probable cause statement filed by Trooper Johnson, Cheatum had a lit marijuana cigarette in the ashtray of the vehicle and a white crystal substance was found in her purse. She later admitted that the crystal substance was crack, according to the statement.
Cheatum faces one charge of possession of controlled substance except 35 grams or less of marijuana/synthetic cannabinoid, a Class D felony. She was released on a $10,000 bond.
Cheatum is already on probation for a similar charge in Boone County. No date has been set for her to appear in Howard County Court.
