The Harrisburg football team maintained its perfect record with an easy 46-6 win over Russellville Friday night at home. The No. 6 Bulldogs are currently 6-0 overall and sit atop the Lewis & Clark conference with a 3-0 record.

From the outset, coach Steve Hopkins’ team controlled the game, scoring three unanswered touchdowns in the first quarter. It began with a five-yard run by senior quarterback Tanner Lanes. Shortly after that, sophomore running back Hayven Samuels added his own five-yard touchdown run.

Rounding out the first quarter scoring was a one-yard touchdown run by senior Gavin Curtis.

The second quarter seemed to be more of the same as junior Anthony Alicea grabbed a 15-yard touchdown pass from Lanes to make the score 32-0 in favor of the home team.

Before the end of the half, however, Russellville found a way to break into the end zone on a 31-yard touchdown pass to make the score 32-6 as the teams went into the locker room for the break.

The third quarter was another Bulldog scoring bonanza as Alicea took off on a 62-yard run for a score followed by a three-yard touchdown run by Samuels. That run capped off the scoring for both teams making the final score Harrisburg 46, Russellville 6.

On the night, Lanes was 8-for-8 passing for 120 yards as the lefty connected for one touchdown.

Alicea made the most of his two carries, running for 62-yards on one and 30 on the other. The 62-yarder resulted in a touchdown.

Samuels just missed the 100-yard mark, carrying the ball eight times for 91 yards and two touchdowns.

Curtis ran four times for 23-yards and a touchdown while Lanes was good for one carry for a five-yard TD.

The receiving trio of Alicea, senior Jace Carr, and junior Austin Darwent had eight total receptions with Alicea having four for 51-yards, Carr having three for 48-yards, and Darwent pulling down one for 21 yards.

Defensively, junior Braden Wyatt had five tackles while sophomore Eric McIntyre and senior Brayton Stephenson each had four.

Senior Gavin Curtis made three stops as did junior Bryce Rowden and sophomore Hunter Cole.

Carr and Darwent each tackled two Russellville runners while junior Harley Whitaker, senior Tanner Fike, junior Logan Fritts, and senior Austyn Furlong also added two apiece.

Alicea contributed one tackle as did junior Izik Butts, sophomore Austin Starbuck, and classmate Gaven Samuels.

Harrisburg travels to Fayette for the showdown between the top two Class 2 District 5 teams on Friday at 7 p.m.
