Carol Jane Moczygemba was born June 18, 1947, to Archie and Julie Moczygemba.

She received her BA and MA in journalism from the University of Texas. Carol worked at Lawrence University in the Office of Public Affairs from 1988 to 1992, beginning as a staff writer and departing as the Director. She worked at Central Methodist University from 1993 to 1998, where she oversaw public relations, created the University’s alumni magazine, The Talon, and taught journalism. She worked as the Managing Editor of Missouri Life magazine from March 2000 to August 2001 before returning to Texas to work with Texas Electrical Cooperatives, where she served as the editor of Texas Coop Power from 2001 to 2013. She served as the president of the Texas Statewide Editors Association from 2010 to 2012.

Carol passed away on July 26, 2023, from complications of Parkinson’s disease. She is survived by her husband, Michael Hirsch; her daughter Stephanie Kruhl; her father, Archie Moczygemba; her brothers Richard (wife Denise), Bill (wife Deanna), Jerry, and Jimmy (wife Carol), as well as numerous nieces and nephews, and grand-nieces and grand-nephews.

A memorial service will be held at Green Pastures, 901 West Live Oak, in Austin, Texas, on Sunday, August 6, from 1 until 5 p.m. Donations in her name can be made to the Fayette Area Community Trust and can be mailed to CTC, 119 N. Main, Fayette, MO 65248.
