The Central Methodist outdoor track and field program is sending 11 athletes to compete in the 2022 NAIA Outdoor Track and Field National Championships this week in Gulf Shores, Alabama.
The championships, hosted by the Gulf Shores and Orange Beach Sports Commission, will take place at the Mickey Miller Blackwell Stadium Complex in Gulf Shores, Alabama, starting today and running through Friday.
Central will be represented in 14 different events, with six athletes on the women’s side and five on the men’s.
Freshman Megan Aubuchon will compete in the 100-meter hurdles alongside sophomore Kailey Johnson who will also compete in the 400-meter hurdles. Junior Keiara-Ashley Cunningham will compete in the 400-meter hurdles as well.
Rounding out the running events for the women will be sophomore Dayana Montenegro in the 400-meter dash.
In the women’s field events, freshman Sadie Heisner will compete in the pole vault while junior Kaitlyn Weber will participate in the long jump.
In the men’s field events, Taylor Bottomley has qualified in three throwing events. The Harrisburg native will compete in the hammer throw, shot put, and discus events.
The other field event in which Central has a competitor is the high jump. Sophomore two-sport athlete Jonathan Brown competes in track and field and is a standout on coach Matt Sherman’s basketball squad.
Senior Alexander Ayala will represent Central in the 400-meter hurdles, while sophomore Brennan Moots will compete in the 110-meter hurdles. Freshman Adam Trachsel will run in the 100-meter dash.
