The weather in Smithville during the state golf championship was not wonderful, but Ashley Clark’s finish was.
The Harrisburg senior ended her high school golf career in the top 15 at the Class 1 state championship, claiming all-state honors.
“It was kind of upsetting once I got off the last hole and it all came to me,” Clark said.
“The season’s over, my career is over. But I don’t think I would want it to end any other way, finishing at state with the people around me that I love.
“It was a really great experience overall.”
Clark shot a round of 98 on day one and a 104 on day two to finish tied for 13th place with a total of 202.
“It was pretty up and down,” Clark said about her play. “I had a few good holes here and there, and then they would be combatted by a couple bad ones.”
The weather was not ideal at the Paradise Golf Complex from October 19-20, but Clark handled the conditions better than most, finishing in the top fifth of the field of 76.
“It was a really nice course, not too wooded, not too long,” Clark said.
“It was just really cold. My hands were cold. There were a couple holes by a lake where the wind was just terrible. It was pretty wet on the second day too, which made it even more miserable. Overall, conditions were not the best.”
Savannah Lee Thessing of New Covenant Academy was tied for fourth after Monday, but shot an 81 on Tuesday to claim the Class 1 title with a total of 173.
Sacred Heart took the team title with a two-day total of 810, led by the individual runner-up, Caten Lucchesi (176).
Glasgow sophomore Macie Parks shot rounds of 120 and 127 to finish 70th in her first trip to the state golf championship.
