Fitzgibbon Hospital and Clinics will hold a COVID-19 booster shot clinic at the Central Methodist University Recreation Center from 8 a.m. until noon, and from 1 to 4 p.m. on Wednesday, October 13. Booster shots of the Pfizer vaccine will be administered.

Further details will be announced as they become available.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recently announced that single booster doses of the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine should be administered at least six months after the primary series and are recommended for people 65 or older, those who live in long-term care facilities, and people 50–64 years old who have underlying medical conditions. In addition, adults aged 18 to 49 with certain underlying medical conditions, and adults aged 18 to 64 at increased risk for COVID-19 exposure and transmission based on where they work or live—including physicians and other health professionals—may also get a Pfizer vaccine booster.

Teachers, day care staff, grocery store workers, and those in homeless shelters or correctional facilities may also receive the booster, based on individual risk and benefits, according to the American Medical Association.

So far, only the vaccine from Pfizer-BioNTech has been approved for the booster, although approval of boosters of the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine is expected in the coming weeks.
