CMU Indoor Track smashes three school records

Several personal bests and program records were set this weekend as the CMU Indoor Track and Field program took part in the Boo Rogers Combined Events and Crimson and Gold Invitational in Pittsburg, Kan.

On Friday, two Eagles competed in the pentathlon, including Haley Bellamy and Renee Finke. Finke tallied 3,413 points to place in the top 10 and set a new school record, her second in as many meets. 

Bellamy totaled 3,308 points, earning personal bests in four out of five events. Both Finke and Bellamy have qualified for the NAIA Indoor National Championships with their results this weekend. 

On Saturday, freshman Na’Zariah James hit the NAIA National Qualifying ‘B’ standard in the triple with a jump of 11.29 meters.

Senior thrower Karli Wolfe improved upon her national qualifying mark in the weight throw. The native of Linn Creek, Mo., set a new school record in the event with a throw of 17.19 meters to place sixth. 

Junior middle distance runner Dayana Montenegro hit the ‘A’ standard in the 600-yard run in a time of 1:34.17, finishing second out of 24 runners. 

On the men’s side, junior Leroy Williams hit the national qualifying ‘A’ standard in the 60m Hurdles in a time of 8.17 seconds. Chris Adekoya ran a personal best of 6.80 seconds in the 60m dash, also hitting the ‘A’ standard for nationals and placing sixth out of 140 total sprinters. Adekoya followed that up with a new school record in the 200m dash, running the event in a time of 22.04 seconds. 

Sophomore Brayton Stephenson competed in the shot put and hit the ‘A’ standard with his first throw of the event with a mark of 15.80 meters. 

The program heads into the holiday break and will next compete in the Iowa Hawkeye Classic on Saturday, Jan. 13, in Iowa City, Iowa.
