Behind five first-half goals, the No. 1 Central Methodist men’s soccer team lifted its overall record to a perfect 14-0 with a 6-0 shut out home victory over Clarke University Saturday afternoon at Davis Field.

Along with their 14-0 overall record, Central improves its conference mark to 11-0. The Pride fall to 7-8-1 and 4-5-1 in the Heart.

The Eagles opened the scoring with three goals in the first 15 minutes of play.  Graduate Jesse Bank started the offense with a goal on the assist from freshman Stefano Campisi in the fifth minute. Less than three minutes later, Campisi joined in the scoring with a goal via an assist from freshman Vitor Antelo.

In the 15th minute,  sophomore Theo Klein pushed the lead to 3-0 with his sixth goal of the season, with the assist courtesy of junior Christian Sanchez.

Both Sanchez and Klein would find the back of the net in the 23rd and 27th minute to increase Central’s lead to 5-0, which proved to be the halftime score.

Sophomore Tom Irion sealed the victory with his first goal of the season in the 55th minute, making the final score 6-0 in favor of the Eagles.

The Central offense finished the afternoon with 21 shots including 12 on goal compared to just two shots and one on goal for the Pride.

The Eagles also tallied 10 total corner kicks, including eight in the first half. Campisi, Klein, and senior Hunter Gilliam all recorded three shots apiece to lead the offense. Klein also recorded a brace with a pair of goals, the second time he has done so this season.

Central will host No. 2 nationally ranked Oklahoma Wesleyan today at 4 p.m. at Davis Field.

The two teams last met in Bartlesville Oklahoma on March 20th 2021. CMU won that matchup by a score of 3-2 in double overtime.
