The No. 1 nationally ranked Central Methodist men's soccer team recorded its eighth consecutive shut out to open the season, defeating Benedictine College by a final score of 3-0 Wednesday night at Davis Field.

CMU keeps its record at a perfect 8-0 including a 5-0 mark in conference play. The Ravens fall to 4-6 and 1-4 in the Heart.

Central started the scoring 19 minutes into the match, as senior Billy Nzojyibwami scored his fourth-straight goal in as many games off an assist from junior Alessandro Salvadego, giving CMU a 1-0 lead. CMU would take a 1-0 lead into the locker room. Sophomore Niels Zachriat recorded his first goal of the year, with Salvadego once again assisting in the 60th minute.

Graduate Jesse Bank put the finishing touches on the match, as he received a pass on a bicycle kick from  sophomore Theo Klein, which the Kruiningen, Netherlands then flicked into the net on a header in the 65th minute.

The Eagles’ offense recorded 21 total shots with eight on goal, compared to just five shots and one on goal for Benedictine. Salvaedgo led the offense with four total shots, highlighted with back-to-back assists. Seniors Riccardo Sandulli, Marcos German, and juniors Jayton Johnson and Klein all recorded two shots apiece.

Sophomore goalkeeper Stefeno Camerlengo secured his eighth clean sheet, picking up one save in a full 90 minutes of action.
