The Central Methodist men's wrestling team continued to receive votes in the second edition of the NAIA Men's Wrestling Coaches' Top 20 poll, released by the national office Thursday evening. Central received 15 votes in the poll.
Other Heart programs featured or mentioned in the Top 20 include No. 1 Grand View and No. 15 Baker. Missouri Valley received 44 votes while William Penn received 21. Neither CMU, Missouri Valley, nor William Penn received enough votes to break into the top 20.
Junior 285-pounder Brenden Shelton represents Central in the individual rankings, as he jumps one spot to No. 6 in his weight class.
The Central Methodist men's wrestling team took on four opponents in the inaugural Eagle duals, hosted by Avila University on Saturday morning in Kansas City.
Central opened the duals with a 33-18 win over Hanibal LaGrange, before falling in their next three duals to Oklahoma City, Hastings, and Avila. Freshman 125-pound grappler Colton King won all four of his matches, including two via fall, and earned a high-scoring 14-12 decision against Cooper Mahaffey of Oklahoma City.
Junior Brenden Shelton, the No. 6 wrestler in the nation at 285-pounds, won both of his bouts against Oklahoma City and Hastings. Fellow heavyweight Jaydon Uptegrove also won his pair of matches, which included a victory by fall over Aaron Cochran of Avila.
The Eagles will next host William Penn in their first home dual meet of the year on Thursday, January 13 at 6 p.m. inside Puckett Field House.
