CMU senior Matias Baccola takes Mount Mercy Classic

The Central Methodist men's golf team finished second at the Mount Mercy Spring Classic Thursday afternoon at the Amana Colonies Golf Club in Amana, Iowa.

The tournament, originally scheduled for 36 holes, was shortened to 18 due to weather conditions.

CMU posted a second-place finish with a single-round score of 321, just five strokes back from team champion and host Mount Mercy.

CMU senior Matias Baccola won the event with a single-round score of 75, while teammate sophomore Aaron Teece finishrd tied for fifth, firing a round of 80. Freshman George Stevens and  junior Tiago Swart both posted a score of 82 to finish just outside the Top-ten in a tie for 11th. Junior Cade Basson and freshman Tomas Lopez Mazzalay finished tied for 16th at 84. Junior Gaite Brauns finished in a tie for 25th at 87, and senior Nzelu Maitha rounded out the competitors for Central tied for 30th at 88.

The Eagles will turn their attention to the postseason, beginning with the Heart Conference Tournament starting Monday, April 25 at Creekmoor Golf Course in Raymore, Missouri.
