Two new Central Methodist Track and Field records were broken on Saturday. Junior sprinter Chris Adekoya broke his own school record in the 200 meters, and Caleb Cody-Jackson set a new standard in the 400 meters.

The feats took place as the teams competed in two weekend meets. The first was the Concordia Polar Dog Invite in Seward, Nebraska, on Friday, followed by the NAIA/JUCO Invitational in Pittsburg, Kansas, on Saturday.

In Nebraska, junior Dayana Montenegro finished second in the 400-meter dash with a time of 58.61 seconds. The time was good enough to hit the ‘B’ standard for qualification in the NAIA Indoor National Championships.

Additionally, Montenegro won the 200-meter dash against a field of 53 athletes with a time of 25.93. Parys Smith finished fourth in the 60-meter hurdles, clocking a time of 9.31. Joining Smith in the top eight of the final heat were Haley Bellamy, Kailey Johnson, and Renee Finke.

Junior Baileigh Morris qualified for nationals in the 3000-meter racewalk in a time of 15:37.88, which also gave her the win.

In the field events, Bellamy placed fourth in the high jump with a leap of 1.60 meters, while Finke secured a fifth-place finish in the triple jump with a mark of 10.64 meters.

Moving to Saturday at the NAIA/JUCO Invite, Adekoya lowered his school record in the 200-meter dash to 22 seconds flat, placing ninth. He also competed in the 60-meter dash, posting a time of 6.85 seconds, good enough for fifth place.

Fellow sprinter Caleb Cody-Jackson broke the school record for the 400-meter dash with a time of 49.08 seconds. He also hit the national ‘B’ standard for qualification to the NAIA Championships.

Leroy Williams finished fourth in the 60-meter hurdles in 8.33 seconds, while Adrian Watson placed fifth in the 600-meter run, clocking a time of 1:24.14.

In the field events, Colder Evans earned a podium finish in the men’s weight throw with a toss of 16.06 meters. In addition, the junior also landed in the top five of the shotput competition with a throw of 14.15 meters.

Na’Zariah James earned a podium finish in the long jump with a mark of 5.42 meters. She also competed in the triple jump, placing second with a jump of 11.16 meters.

Senior Delaney Miller won the high jump against a field of 13 competitors with a height of 1.65 meters. In the pole vault, senior Amara Reichert finished second, clearing the bar at 2.77 meters.

Jaxon Hiser and Neil Green placed second and third in the pole vault on the men’s side with marks of 4.40 and 4.10 meters, respectively.

Overall, the CMU women placed fifth out of 22 teams competing in Pittsburg, while the men finished sixth out of 14 teams.

The Eagles will next compete in the Principia College Relays beginning Friday in Elsah, Illinois.
