Despite a tremendous setback on the first day of play, the CMU womens’ golf team managed to finish third overall in the Heart of America Golf Conference Championship that wrapped up last Tuesday. The event was hosted by the Creekmoor Golf Club in Raymore Missouri.
The Eagles finished the tournament with a score of 1017. That score was just two strokes behind second place Park but 39 strokes behind champion William Penn. William Penn finished at 978.
Central sophomore Cassandra Contreras, last year’s Heart Golfer of the Year, added to her trophy case by being named the golfer of the year again this season. Contreras was also named to the Heart All-Conference team. The defending Heart champion finished tied for ninth with a total score of 250 after a misunderstanding of the rules gave her a score of 93 on the first round. (See full story on page 8. )
Freshman Sarah Krenowicz led the Central golfers with a three-round score of 249, finishing eighth and was named to the All-Conference team as well.
Senior Alea Andrade added her name to the All-Conference team for her performance during the regular season. She finished tied for 23rd in the tournament at 261.
Logan Allen finished at 257. That score allowed the freshman to finish tied for 16th.
