Central Methodist junior grappler Brenden Shelton represented the Eagles at this year's NAIA Men's Wrestling National Championships, held March 4-5 at Hartman Arena in Wichita, Kansas.
Shelton is now a two-time national qualifier and is the first Central men's wrestler to qualify for nationals in program history.
The Colon, Michigan native posted an 0-2 record at this year's championship. He fell to second-seeded Odgerel Batkhishig of Doane (Nebraska) by Fall at 2:40 in the 285-pound championship bracket. After receiving a bye, Shelton concluded his tournament run with a loss to Indiana Tech's Braydon Erb by Fall at 2:25 in the consolation bracket.
He finishes the year with a 12-9 overall record and was ranked individually six times in 2022, climbing as high as No. 6 in mid-December.
