Denise Marcella Cooksey, 68, of Higbee, Missouri passed away at her home on March 24, 2022.
Denise was born in Independence, Missouri on September 21, 1953, a daughter of Edward and Marian Shull Costigan. She married Dwayne Cooksey on July 7, 1973, in Independence. Dwayne survives at their home.
She was employed at Boone Hospital in the medical records department for nine years and for 13 years at Boyce and Bynum, both in Columbia. She loved family trips to Disney World and spending time on the beach. Most of all she loved her family, especially her grandchildren.
Cherishing Denise’s memory are her husband, Dwayne; a daughter, Brianne Overfelt and husband Travis of Clark, Missouri; a son, Shawn Cooksey and wife Julie of Columbia; a brother, Patrick Costigan of Kansas City, Missouri; five grandchildren, Gracyn, Lily and Sadie Overfelt, and Madeline and Matthew Cooksey; two nieces, Kris Barker and Beth Elliott; and two nephews, Andy Costigan and Michael Varney.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Marjorie Varney.
The family will host a Celebration of Life honoring Denise from 3 until 5 p.m. on Saturday, April 23, 2022, at Cascades Clubhouse, 6700 Port Orchard Drive, Columbia, Missouri.
Memorial contributions are suggested to the American Diabetes Association.
