Dorothy Chastain, 90, passed away peacefully at The Lodge in Fayette, Missouri on January 26, 2022.

Dorothy Jean Chastain was born in Clifton Hill, Missouri on August 22, 1931, a daughter to the late Arnold and Juanita (Littrell) Engle.  She graduated from Fenger High School in Chicago, Illinois. Her first job out of high school was working as an elevator operator in Chicago. On June 22, 1956, she married the love of her life, Kenneth Chastain in Joliet, Illinois.  This past year they celebrated 65 years of marriage. During her working career, Dorothy worked as a cashier for various companies and department stores.  She was an accomplished seamstress. Dorothy made countless dresses and gowns for numerous weddings and events for family members and friends. She loved sewing and crocheting, and was an avid reader. Dorothy’s favorite color was purple, and the family is requesting anyone in attendance for her services wear purple if they are able.

Survivors include her husband, Kenneth Chastain of Fayette, Missouri; three children, Melinda Jessee of Armstrong, Missouri, Howard Pierson of Fallon, Nevada, and Karyn (Scott) Larson of Armstrong, Missouri; eight grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren; brother, Edward (Betty) Engle of Elk Grove, California; and a sister Sandra Holland of San Antonio, Texas.  

In addition to her parents, Dorothy was preceded in death by a son, Darren Chastain, brother, Earl Engle, son-in-law Duane Jessee, and a daughter-in-law, Sharon Pierson. 

A memorial service honoring the life of Mrs. Chastain will be held 11 a.m., Monday, February 7, 2022 at Friemonth-Freese Funeral Home in Fayette, with Rev. David Mackey officiating.  Visitation will be held an hour before the service at the funeral home starting at 10 a.m.  A private inurnment will be held at the Missouri State Veterans Cemetery in Jacksonville.
