Elwood Jackson, 98, of Clark and formerly of Armstrong, passed away at his home surrounded by his family and neighbors on June 18, 2021.

Herman “Elwood” Jackson was born in Fayette on March 23, 1923, a son of the late James Archie and Dora Mae Sims Jackson. He married Fleta Edmonds on January 7, 1944 in Abilene, Texas. She preceded him in death March 12, 2014.

Elwood was a member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Moberly. He served his nation in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II. He was employed as an electrical engineer with the University of Missouri, Keller Memorial Hospital, and Boone Hospital Center. Elwood was also a long-time farmer, operating Fleetwood Farms in Armstrong, and supplying produce to area grocery stores and the local community.

Cherishing his memory are three daughters, Rebecca Jo Dometrorch of Clark, Patricia Mae Yeo (Donald) of Moberly, and Melinda Denise Klingler (Kirk) of Fayette; five grandchildren, Richard Yeo, Amanda Duncan (Charles-Ryan), Angela Coats (Brian), Ronald Durham II (Diana), and Joseph Durham (Makayla Foreman); and 10 great-grandchildren, David, Katy and Emily Yeo; Collin and Owen Thelen; Hayleigh and Evan Coats and Lane, Jackson, and Baily Durham; and a brother-in-law, James Shaw. Elwood was especially honored that his great-grandson Jackson Durham will carry on the Jackson family name.

In addition to his wife and parents, Elwood was preceded in death by two brothers, Willard and Paul Jackson; a sister, Coralee Shaw and a son-in-law, Joe Dometrorch.

Graveside services with full military honors will be held at 11:45 a.m. on Wednesday, June 23, 2021, at Bethel Cemetery in rural Fayette, located at the intersection of Howard County roads 105 and 114. Pastor Jody Dickhaut will officiate.

Visitation will be held from 10 to 11 a.m., Wednesday morning at Carr-Yager Funeral Home in Fayette.

Memorial contributions are suggested to the Wounded Warrior Project.
