Fayette woke up on Independence Day to soggy conditions after another night of torrential rainfall. Another 1.5 inches of rain of rain fell in the overnight hours, forcing the annual Fayette Party in the Park to push back festivities by an hour. The wet weather meant for a shorter parade and a subdued attendance. But kids’ activities throughout the park was still the major attraction, led by the high paydays for winners of the frog and turtle races followed by the Power Wheels races. Once Mr. Sun finally made his appearance, the splash park saw some action, as did the city swimming pool, which offered evening pool games and fee admission.
The city’s annual fireworks display went on as planned, clearing out a low ceiling of clouds with explosive bursts of colors to close out Independence Day in Fayette.
