The Fayette R-III Board of Education on Wednesday, April 1, voted unanimously to extend the school closure through April 24. The district hopes to resume classes April 27. New Franklin and Glasgow schools have both done the same.
Fayette schools have not been in session since beginning Spring Break on March 12. The district has continued to provide food service to all youths in Fayette Monday through Fridays and the Buddy Pack Program has been uninterrupted.
But starting yesterday (Tuesday), the district has changed from handing out sack lunches with breakfasts five days a week, to just on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Children will still receive five meals a week, just handed out in bulk on two days. On Thursday, April 9, bags will only have one meal, since meals were not planned to be served during the district’s second Spring Break April 10-13. An email explaining the change to parents from Assistant Superintendent Brent Doolin went out Monday.
