Last week, Fayette coach Bri Moore said she wanted redemption against Boonville, which came from behind to defeat the Falcons 6-5 in the Lady Pirates’ tournament on August 31. On Monday, the first-year coach was granted her wish, as Fayette took advantage of six Lady Pirates errors while delivering 13 hits in a 9-3 rout at Boonville.

The Lady Falcons took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning, manufacturing a run on back-to-back singles from senior slugger Cayle John and Skylar Sunderland.

The breakout inning came in the top of the third when Fayette scored six runs on just three singles and a walk. Boonville committed two errors in the inning. Fayette also reached base by way of a walk, catcher’s interference, and fielder’s choice.

With two runners on, Skylar Sunderland drove in the first run of the inning with a hard-hit ground ball to right to send Whitley Sunderland home. Catcher Leah Thies later drove in a run on a fielder’s choice, followed by an RBI-single from senior Rylee Finley.

Both Thies and Finley would make it home on a single by junior Hailey Kuster and infield errors. Kuster then scored on another Boonville error on a fly ball by sophomore Paige Vroman to make it a 7-0 game.

Boonville scored two runs on a walk and two singles in the bottom of the fifth. But Fayette once again widened the margin to seven runs with three singles in the top of the sixth. Sophomore Brooklynn Wies drove in two runs on a fly ball to right to make it a 9-3 game.

Boonville put four more runners on base in the final two innings but plated just one run.

Fayette ace Skylar Sunderland earned the win after delivering five strikeouts in three innings while surrendering just two hits without a run. Junior Payton Kindle allowed three runs (1 earned) on five hits with a walk and two strikeouts in the final four innings.

John had another standout day at the plate, hitting 3-for-4 with three runs scored. Skylar Sunderland drove in two runs with two hits in three at-bats with a run scored. Wies had a breakout game, driving in two runs on three hits. Kuster finished with two hits, one RBI and a run scored.

Fayette, 4-2 overall, was set to play its first ever Central State 8 Conference game against New Bloomfield (2-3) at home on Tuesday after the Advertiser went to press. On Saturday, the Lady Falcons face Madison (2-2) in the opening round of the New Franklin Tournament (see bracket).
