With only two competitors advancing to the Class 2 sectional this past weekend, there was little chance of Fayette competing for a team title.
Senior Cale Hudson and junior Madison Race, however, were not going to let their small numbers dampen their spirits as they competed at Monroe City.
Race qualified in the girls’ 200-meter dash and despite finishing eighth, covered the distance with a time of 28.82 seconds.
Hudson, the lone senior on the team, has taken a leadership role, pushing teammates to better themselves which will do nothing but help the Falcons in the long run.
On Saturday, Hudson first competed in the 110-meter hurdles and finished just out of state qualification with a time of 17.84, a mere 0.21 seconds behind fourth-place finisher Travis Gardiner of Harrisburg.
“I was just out of it,” said Hudson. “I finished about a foot behind the guy in front of me.”
Hudson finished sixth in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 45.11 behind Gardiner, who finished first at 42.41
Fayette most of the year Hudson was the only senior, along with three juniors, six sophomores, and three freshmen.
On the girls’ side, Race competed alongside three other juniors, one sophomore, and three freshmen.
