Festival of Lights

To the Editor:
Congratulations to Fayette Main Street, Inc, and to all those who planned and organized the Fayette Festival of Lights! This spectacular display added so much to the joy of the holiday season! What a wonderful addition to Fayette’s small town Christmas traditions – lights, music, the Magic Tree, Santa Claus visits, and family friendly activities with something for everyone, from Holiday Home tours and carriage rides to the Christmas parade and Sparkle in the Park. It was wonderful – really “full of wonder” to all those who enjoyed it.
The colorful light shows that illumined the majestic Court House on the frosty December nights had a spectacular beauty set off by the familiar holiday music, enjoyed by those on the Square who came to watch the display. As a sixties Central alum, I found myself reminded of December Saturday nights “back in the day” when blue lights decorated the Square and Christmas Carols played from an amplified record player for the shoppers crowding the stores for holiday shopping – such happy memories of a “Norman Rockwell” scene and now so nice to see the new traditions begin.
On a lighter note, when driving downtown for dinner at Emmet’s early in December, we – my sister and I – were so impressed with the lights and music that we circled the Court House Square several times; marveling at the amazing display. We were so dazzled by the light show and so busy exclaiming over it that we completely failed to notice the signs stating “No U Turns on the Square.” Oblivious, we made a quick forbidden turn, hoping to get a parking place for dinner, and had to be “reminded” by a very helpful policeman that we needed to look at the directional signs, not just the awesome holiday lights!
Again, thanks to all those who worked so hard to create a holiday tradition for everyone in town and, those from neighboring towns as well who, I am sure, made special trips to Fayette to see and participate in the Festival. This special Christmas event will create happy memories for everyone and will be a tradition to enhance the holiday season in years to come.
