Fayette High School is bringing back the traditional Pink Out Cancer Awareness night in support of FHS senior Will Beaman, who was recently diagnosed with leukemia. This year, Pink Out will be held in conjunction with a night of basketball games against Salisbury on Tuesday, December 21, starting with junior varsity boys at 5 p.m., followed by varsity girls and boys games. The Fayette School District staff and students have been raising money and collecting donations for the silent auction to be held in the high school commons that evening.
This annual event was canceled last school year due to the COVID-19 pandemic and subsequent restrictions. The Pink Out Committee will donate all of the proceeds raised through the month of December to Will Beaman, as well as the Ellis Fischel Cancer Center’s Mam Van which serves Howard County.
Pink Out shirts, featuring the slogan “Fight like a Falcon,” were sold through Red Weir Athletic Supplies in an online format in order to ensure delivery by December 21. No additional shirts will be available at the game, but fans are encouraged to wear anything pink to show support for the Beaman family.
“Will is blown away by all the support he has received and everyone who has reached out to our family,” said Darlene Beaman, Will’s mom.
There is still time to assist with the Pink Out Cancer Awareness event. Anyone who would like to donate an item for the silent auction or money for the Beaman family is asked to contact Amy Uthlaut (authlaut@fayetteschool.org) or Amy Valencia (avalencia@fayetteschool.org) at FHS.
