Gordon Harvey, 93, formerly of New Franklin and Boonville, passed away March 22, 2021, at the Missouri Veterans Home in Mexico, Missouri.
Mr. Harvey was born August 7, 1927, in Walker (Vernon County), Missouri, the son of S.R. (Sam) Walker and Hazel Irene (Mitchem) Harvey. He married Delores Marie Smothers in New Franklin on September 6, 1951. She preceded him in death January 20, 2021.
Mr. Harvey was a World War II U.S. Navy Veteran and was recalled to service in 1952 to practice in atomic energy tests at Enewetoc Atoll. He worked for over 40 years for the MK&T Railroad as agent, telegrapher, drawbridge operator, and train dispatcher at various locations from Baden Yard in St. Louis to as far south as Waco and Wichita Falls, Texas, and several points in between. Mr. Harvey was a lifetime member of the American Legion and a member of the Masonic Lodge. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and traveling to many states.
In addition to his wife, Delores, he was preceded in death by his parents and his older sister, Erma Harvey in 1990.
A visitation honoring Mr. Harvey’s life will be held Saturday, March 27, 2021, from 1 to 1:30 p.m. concluding with a Masonic Service at 1:30 p.m. at Markland-Yager Funeral Home in New Franklin. A graveside service with full military honors will follow at 2 p.m at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in New Franklin.
