Harrisburg boys and girls take Tomahawk Relay titles

The Harrisburg Bulldog track teams traveled up the road and took care of business as both the boys and girls teams brought home first-place hardware on Saturday.

Other schools from the area competed in Hallsville as well. The Glasgow boys took ninth and the New Franklin boys took 11th among the 12 boys teams competing.

Among 14 girls teams at the meet, Glasgow placed ninth and New Franklin took 10th.

As a team, the Harrisburg boys outscored the next closest opponent, the Hallsville Indians, 133-85.5. The Lady Bulldogs, outscored second place New Bloomfield 176.5-108.5.

Local athletes finishing  in the top five were:

In the 4x800-meter relay Harrisburg’s team of senior Baylie Combs, freshman Madison Hessel, senior Olivia Fischer, and freshman Abigail Rosson finished third with a time of 11:22.05.

In the boys 4x800-meter relay, the team of freshmen Hayven Samuels,  sophomores Harley Whitaker and Braden Wyatt, and freshman Carter Bremer garnered six points for Harrisburg with a third-place finish and a time of 9:30.07.

In the girls 100-meter hurdles, Harrisburg junior Elisa Arrighi took first with a time of 17.64 seconds.

On the boys’ side, Harrisburg junior Travis Gardiner took third in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 17.17.

In the girls 100-meter dash, Harrisburg freshman Kaydence Timbrook took the tape in 13.55 seconds for a third-place finish.

The Harrisburg boys dominated the 100-meter dash with senior Wyatt Robinson finishing second with a time of 11.72, while junior teammate Brayton Stephenson finished fifth at 12.16.

Harrisburg took second in the girls 4x200-meter relay as Timbrook, senior Jessica Gardiner, sophomore Brecca Thornhill, and senior Isabella McMahan took second with a time of 1:55.42. The Glasgow team consisting of junior Malia Carmack, sophomore Olivia Fuemmeler, senior Hadley Sanders, and classmate Jamila White finished fifth with a finals time of 2:01.22.

In the boys 4x200-meter relay, Harrisburg took first place with a time of 1:37.72. The team consisted of sophomore Austin Darwent,  freshman Hunter Cole, senior Kevin Raines, and Travis Gardiner.

Two Harrisburg girls, senior Baylie Combs (5:57.25) and  freshman Emma Fischer (6:18.99), finished second and fourth, respectively, in the girls 1600-meter run.

On the boys side sophomore Harley Whitaker finished the 1600-meter run in 5:12.11 to finish fifth.

In the girls 4x100-meter relay,  Harrisburg finished second with a time of 54.69 seconds. That team consisted of Timbrook, Gardiner, senior Hailey Emanuel, and McMahan.

Finishing second in the boys 4x100-meter relay was the Harrisburg team of Stephenson, Raines, Cole, and Darwent with a time of 46.77.

The girls 400-meter dash was nearly swept by area girls as Harrisburg’s Gardiner (1:04.55) placed second followed by her teammate Thornhill (1:05.35) in third and Glasgow’s Carmack (1:05.50) in fourth with her teammate Sanders (1:05.70) rounding out the top five.

In the boys 400-meter dash, New Franklin junior Douglas Creason finished third with a time of 55.45 while Harrisburg’s Darwent finished fifth at 55.96.

The girls 300-meter hurdles had Glasgow’s Sanders in second with a time of 52.15, and Arrighi of Harrisburg in third with a time of 53.14.

On the boys side, Harrisburg’s Gardiner finished third in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 44.19.

In the girls 800-meter run, Combs finished first for Harrisburg with a time of 2:41.33. Sophomore Carly Dorson of New Franklin finished third at 2:48.08, and Hadley Sanders rounded out the top five with a time of 2:48.84.

Wyatt and Samuels of Harrisburg finished fourth and fifth,  respectively, in the boys 800-meter run with times of 2:14.05 and 2:15.75.

In the girls 200-meter dash McMahan of Harrisburg finished third with a time of 29.25 while her teammate Timbrook finished fifth at 29.45.

Robinson and Darwent of Harrisburg finished third and fourth, respectively, in the boys 200-meter dash with times of 24.33 and 24.49. New Franklin’s Creason posted a time of 25.03 to finish fifth..

Combs and Emma Fischer of Harrisburg finished third and fourth in the girls 3200-meter run with times of 13:19.70 and14:01.25.

Harrisburg’s Samuels finished the boys 3200-meter run in11:11.91 for a third-place finish.

Harrisburg took third in the girls 4x400-meter relay as the team of Gardiner, Rosson, Emanuel, and Olivia Fischer ran the distance in 4:39.90.

The Harrisburg boys also took third with junior Jace Carr, Gardiner, Cole, and Wyatt finishing in 3:48.29.

In the girls shot put, New Franklin sophomore Kelsi Fair tossed the shot 8.46 meters to take fifth.

Harrisburg’s Brayton Stephenson tossed the shot on the boys side 15.38 meters to take first, while teammate Tanner Fike finished fourth with a throw of 12.42.

In the girls discus Glasgow sophomore Taryn Fuemmeler finished fourth with a throw of 25.88 meters.

Alan Westhues of Glasgow finished third in the boys' discus with a throw of 34.38 meters.

In the girls javelin Glasgow junior Tehya Sellmeyer hurled the javelin 26.56 meters to finish fourth. Over on the boys' side, Harrisburg junior Tanner Fike finished first with a throw of 45.00 meters. Teammate Kevin Raines was fourth with a throw of 34.58 meters. 

Jumping 4.59 meters was good enough for a third-place finish in the girls' long jump for Elisa Arrighi of Harrisburg.

Jace Carr of Harrisburg won the boys' long jump with a leap of 6.23 meters as his teammate Wyatt Robinson finished third jumping 6.11 meters. Douglas Creason of New Franklin finished fifth with a jump of 5.85 meters.

In the girls' triple jump, Thornhill of Harrisburg finished second jumping 9.52 meters. Glasgow’s Malia Carmack finished fourth jumping 9.35 meters.

On the boys' side Robinson and Carr finished first and second by jumping 12.43 and 12.28 meters. Senior Trevor Sanders of Glasgow finished fifth with a jump of 11.56.

Sophomore Carli Ellis of Harrisburg finished third in the girls high jump at 1.40 meters and New Franklin’s Emma Rice finished fifth with a jump of 1.36 meters.

Finishing second in the boys' high jump with a jump of 1.80 meters was Austin Darwent of Harrisburg while teammate Kevin Raines finished fifth with a jump of 1.65 meters.

Olivia Fischer of Harrisburg finished second in the girls' pole vault with a vault of 2.28 meters. On the boys' side, Dayton Samuels Samuels of Harrisburg finished second by vaulting 2.71 meters and Glasgow junior Mason Gouge finished third at 2.70 meters.
