The Harrisburg girls won the Class 1 District 2 girls golf tournament Thursday at L.A. Nickell Golf Course in Columbia. Golfers from New Franklin, Fayette, and Glasgow also advanced to the state tournament.

The Lady Bulldogs shot 418 to finish 20 strokes ahead of runner-up St. Pius X of Festus. It was Harrisburg’s first district title since 2010. The top two teams each send their four lowest scorers to state. For Harrisburg, this means junior Ava Grindstaff (95), junior Eastin Hill (104), junior Elin Grace Van Roekel (109), and junior Sanibel Lynne Acton (110) will move on to the Class 1 State Tournament beginning Monday, October 19. Grindstaff tied for third in the 78-golfer field.

Three other golfers in the Advertiser’s coverage area advance as individuals. New Franklin junior Madison Bradshaw was the individual runner-up with a score of 92. New Franklin finished 12th as a team at 555. Addison M. Forbis shot 134, Sydney M. Bockting 138, and Cora E. Kinser 191.

Fayette sophomore Julia Young of Fayette tied for 13th overall with a score of 109. Fayette placed sixth as a team with a combined score of 483. Senior Adley Spurgeon shot 120, junior Josie Bentley 123, freshman Caroline Young 131, and freshman Cecilia Saylor 167.

Glasgow placed fifth as a team with a score of 477, with one individual advancing to the state tournament. Sophomore Finley Olendorff shot 112 and tied for the last qualifying score. Junior Maylen Parks missed by one stroke at 113. Isabella Polich shot 123, Kamryn Kottman 129, and Alliyah Monnig 152.
