Ongoing work around Fayette on various infrastructure upgrades is causing major traffic headaches. Spire, the natural gas company that supplies Fayette, has been replacing pipelines throughout town since the start of the year. Now, two long-awaited projects by the City of Fayette—sewer replacement and new sidewalk construction—have all combined to create a traffic nightmare.
Sewers work on Herndon Street near Daly Elementary School has caused difficulty just as the school year is beginning. Superintendent Jill Wiseman said that so far no bus routes have been affected. However, parents are having to find alternative routes to drop off and pick up their children.
The gas pipeline project, headed up by Miller Pipeline, is still in the early stages and is expected to last another year. One aggravation noted by citizens involves the repair of sites where pipeline work has ensued. A separate company makes repairs to affected areas but usually does so about a month after the initial work has taken place. The repair company makes several repairs all at once to keep material costs down, leaving roads and intersections entirely or partially impassable for weeks at a time.
