Lifelong Glasgow resident, James Brucks, 91, passed away on February 14, 2021, at Glasgow Gardens in Glasgow, Missouri. His last day was spent with his wife Lois and several children by his side. Other children and grandchildren were present through video conference.

James Edward Brucks was born in Glasgow on December 10, 1929, a son to Charles A. and Margaret (Neville) Brucks. He attended St. Mary’s School and graduated from Glasgow High School in 1947. Jim worked 46 years for the Glasgow Coop, retiring in 1994 as Assistant Manager. On May 24, 1951, James married the love of his life, and childhood friend, Lois Westhues, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Glasgow. Together they’ve enjoyed nearly 70 years of marriage, full of love, life, and traveling. Jim and Lois have visited all 50 states, all the provinces and territories of Canada, except one, and most European countries. They’ve visited Mexico, Peru, Japan, Taiwan, Honk Kong, the Philippines, and Guam, to name a few. Jim and Lois have literally seen the world together and loved every bit of it. They also looked forward to spending the winter months in south Texas, which they did for 15 winters. Jim enjoyed photography, woodworking, and laughing with his grandchildren. He was a devout Catholic and member of St. Mary parish and a former grand knight in the Knights of Columbus.

Jim and Lois had nine children, Susan Stuart of Shawnee, Kansas; Sandi Brown (Rich) of Denver, Colorado; Dean (Glenna) Brucks of Columbia, Missouri; Sharon (Richard) Prohaska of Castle Pines, Colorado; Sara Sanders (Dale) of Shawnee, Kansas; Don Brucks (Jo) of Glasgow; David (Debbie) Brucks of Glasgow; Dennis (Barbara) Brucks of Macon, Missouri; and Sally (Jim) Reeves of Glasgow; The couple also have 26 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by his daughter, Sara Sanders, daughter-in-law, Jo Brucks, son-in-law, Rich Brown, brother, Charles Brucks, and two sisters, Gertrude Ann Kressig and Betsy Brucks.

A memorial mass will be at 10 a.m., Monday, February 22, 2021, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Glasgow, with Fr. Joshua Duncan officiating. A private family inurnment will take place at Washington Cemetery in Glasgow.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to St. Mary School, in care of Friemonth-Freese Funeral Service, 112 Market St. Glasgow, MO 65254.
