James Wesley Richardson, 56, a much-loved resident of New Franklin passed away November 19, 2023.

James “J.R. or Jimmy” was born in Boonville, Missouri on December 10, 1966. Growing up Jimmy had a difficult life and at the age of 15 he became part of Melvin and Pat Boggs’ family. He attended New Franklin schools and was a lifelong Bulldog.

Jimmy enjoyed keeping busy, helping the Boggs’ family on their farm and with their rental properties. He was Melvin’s right-hand man. His other special part time employment for many years included helping at the New Franklin Schools as a crossing guard and as custodial assistant. He especially liked helping at special events and basketball games. Jimmy was very independent and liked to do things his own way. He often walked many miles to where he wanted to go or to work. One of his goals was to be a country singer. He liked visiting Caseys in New Franklin for Mountain Dew, coffee and pizza and visiting with friends. He always had a big smile and wave for those who drove by as he was walking in town.

He is survived by his mother, Delphia Richardson; a brother, Elfonso; four sisters, Leona, Delores, Rosie and Lonnie.

Jimmy was preceded in death by his father, Ralph Lee Richardson and a sister, Pamela.

Jimmy is also survived by his adopted family, Melvin and Pat Boggs and their family, Jay, Matt, Sara, Lesley, Ashley, Erin, Allyx and their families and a host of New Franklin friends.

A visitation for Jimmy will be held on Saturday, November 25 from 11:00 a.m. until noon at Markland-Yager Funeral Home in New Franklin. A graveside service will follow at 12:30 p.m. at Boonesboro Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the New Franklin High School Athletic Association.

Condolences may be shared at www.marklandyager.com.
