Three teens injured

Three Howard County teenagers were injured in a one-car accident near Glasgow on the afternoon of Thursday, July 4.

The three unnamed juveniles, males aged 16 and 13, along with a 14-year-old female, were heading south along the MO 87 spur in a 1994 Ford Ranger pickup truck that was driven by the 16-year-old male around 12:10 p.m. According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the truck traveled off the left side of the roadway and struck an embankment.

None of the three teenagers were wearing seatbelts, according to the patrol. All were taken by ambulance to University Hospital in Columbia. The 16- and 13-year-olds sustained minor injuries. The 14-year-old was listed with moderate injuries.

The pickup was totaled.

Motorcycle vs. deer

A Columbia man was taken to the hospital with moderate injuries after he struck a deer while riding a motorcycle around 12:30 p.m. on Thursday, July 4.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, Matthew C. Gibbons, 24, was heading west on MO 124 near County Road 409, just west of North State Route A, on a 2006 Kawasaki Ninja when he struck a deer, causing the motorcycle to overturn.

He was transported by Howard County Ambulance to University Hospital in Columbia with moderate injuries.

Mr. Gibbons was wearing a helmet, according to the patrol. The motorcycle sustained moderate damage.
