Rural Fayette, MO resident and longtime Howard County farmer, Kenneth Wies, 95, passed away peacefully at his home on the same day of his wedding anniversary, September 8, 2026.
Kenneth Francis Wies was born at home in Cottleville, MO, on November 6, 1930. Kenny was one of 11 children born to the late Frank J. and Helen M. (Pfaff) Wies. He resided in the Cottleville/St. Peters area for the early part of his life. On September 8, 1951, Kenny married the love of his life, Loraine Gertrude Loeffler. They lived a life of love and commitment together for nearly 68 years. Loraine preceded Kenny in death on June 22, 2019. The day of Kenny’s passing would have marked the couple’s 75th wedding anniversary.
Kenny and Loraine eventually moved and settled in Fayette in 1971, where they started a family and he began his career as a farmer. Kenny’s humble upbringing led him to a life where he was no stranger to hard work. He took pride in caring for his cattle, and planting and harvesting his crops. He loved driving and hauling grain in his truck. Up until the age of 92, Kenny was still taking trips to Buffalo, MO, in his semi. While farming was a huge part of who he was, Kenny also took great pride in his family and enjoyed time spent with them. Kenny was a devout Catholic and member of St. Joseph Church in Fayette. Kenny, along with Sister Dorothy, were instrumental in getting St. Joseph Hall built in 1992. Kenny donated his time and effort in starting and organizing the St. Joseph Pancake and Sausage Breakfast to help fundraise and eventually pay for the hall’s construction. Kenny’s work ethic and life values will continue to live on through his surviving family.
Survivors include his four sons, Ron (Jenni) Wies, Larry (Colleen) Wies, Steven Wies, and Dick (significant other, Luanne Brunello) Wies; 21 grandchildren; 52 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Geri Sachs and Terry Smith; daughter-in-law, Mardell Wies; son-in-law, Terry Estill; two sisters-in-law, Karen Wies and Helen (Calvin) Iffrig; and brother-in-law, Lonnie Collins. In addition to his wife and parents, Kenny was preceded in death by a son, William “Bill” Wies, daughter, Patricia “Patty” Estill, and an infant daughter, Mary Wies; two daughters-in-law, Carroll Wies and Patsy Wies; six sisters, Delores Merz, Ruth Ellen Boehle, Mary Ann Conoyer, Betty Suellentrop, Marge Collins and Ginny Behlmann; two brothers, Gerry Wies and Mike Wies; two brothers-in-law, Ed (Olevia) Loeffler and Otmar (Marlene) Loeffler.
