Fayette’s Jr. Babe Ruth League debut in Boonville on Thursday came up short as Fayette was not able to get a hit in a 17-0 loss to KWRT. Coach Clint Poulson used three pitchers, Caidyn Hazel, Kailen Vaca and, Brooks Poulson, to garner the no-hitter
Multiple errors plagued Fayette as the game wore on causing starting pitcher Mason Sappington to have to leave the game early, being pulled prior to the end of the first inning. Along with Sappington, relief pitchers Jayden Shiflett and Charles Alexander combined to allow 17 runs on 11 hits.
During the game, Fayette was only able to muster five baserunners. One reached on an error, one was hit by a pitch, and three were walks.
Fayette went down 1-2-3 in the first inning all by way of strikeout as KWRT starter Caidyn Hazel caught two of the three Fayette batters looking.
In the second, Fayette mounted somewhat of a rally by getting two runners aboard by walking. But once again strikeouts wiped out any effort to score as both runners were stranded.
The third inning was more of the same as Fayette could mount no offense against the pitching on KWRT Reliever Kailen Vaca.
In the top of the fourth, it looked again as if Fayette might be able to string together some hits. But every time hitters were able to get the bat on the ball, the ball ended up in the glove of an opposing player.
Fayette was back in action Tuesday against Imhoff’s, but no score was available before The Advertiser went to press. Fayette will go against BTC Bank Wednesday night at 8 p.m. in Boonville at Twellman Field.
