The Central Methodist women's wrestling team continues to receive votes in the second edition of the NAIA Women's Wrestling Coaches Top 20 poll. Five Eagles were included in the individual rankings.
Other Heart programs featured or mentioned in the Top 20 include No. 1 Grand View, No. 14 Baker, and No. 19 Missouri Valley College. William Penn, and Waldorf also received votes but not enough to reach the top 20.
Freshman Lillian Gough cracked the Top 10 in the 136-pound weight class, while freshman Alexis Miller is No. 16 at 109 pounds and classmate Abigail Jastal No. 17 at 101 pounds.
Freshman Sabrina King rounds out the ranked wrestlers for Central, as the St. Charles, Missouri native is currently 18th in the 123-pound weight class.
The Lady Eagles participated in the inaugural Eagle Duals, hosted by Avila University Saturday morning in Kansas City.
Central fell in the first two duals of the morning to No. 1 Grand View and No. 14 Baker, before closing the day with a narrow 27-22 win over Avila.
Miller highlighted the day for Central with a perfect 3-0 record, which included two wins by fall and an upset victory over No. 14 Chloe Krebsbach of Grand View. Gough record two wins in three matches, including back-to-back victories by technical fall.
After her stellar outing this past weekend, freshman 109-pound grappler Alexis Miller was tabbed as the Heart Women's Wrestler of the Week by the conference office Monday.
She becomes the second Eagle this season to earn Heart weekly honors, as teammate Lillian Gough was also recognized back on December 6.
She was one of six wrestlers to earn a victory in Central's dual against host school Avila University in a 27-22 team win.
Miller and the Eagles will next compete in the EZ-Flex Open hosted by Ottawa University Saturday, January 8 beginning at 9 a.m. in Ottawa, Kansas.
