Fayette will honor the men and women of our nation’s military on Friday for Veterans Day. Two ceremonies will take place at the Fayette school district. The first is scheduled for 9 a.m. at Daly Elementary. At 10 a.m., a ceremony will take place at the high school, presented by the American Legion White-Bell Post 273 and the Howard County Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution.
The guest speaker will be United States Air Force Captain Barbara McClurkin.
During the ceremony at the high school, members of American Legion Posts 273 and 211 will present colors. The local Boy Scout Troop 62 will lead the Pledge of Allegiance, followed by the singing of the “Star Spangled Banner” by the Fayette High School choir.
Once again, Joshua Kirby, Commander of American Legion Post 273, will deliver the Mayoral Proclamation, followed by welcoming messages from Fayette Superintendent Brent Doolin and Mayor of the City of Fayette, Jeremy Dawson.
Veterans who attend the service will be recognized, and Prisoners of War and those considered Missing in Action will be honored.
The Peacemakers Quilters will award this year’s Quilt of Valor to David Maxfield, a U.S. Navy veteran and current paraprofessional in the Fayette school district (see feature below).
A wreath will be placed by Howard County DAR, and the FHS choir will sing “God Bless America.” Harold Myers, Chaplain of American Legion Post 273, will deliver the closing before colors are retired, and “Taps” is played by FHS musician Evan Coats.
