New backup generator installed at Keller

Posted

A new generator at the county’s Keller Building will provide standby power and replace the old equipment that has been in place since 1961.

The generator and new transfer switch was purchased by the Howard County Commission for around $72,000. Howard County Emergency Management directors Bryan Kunze and Bill John secured a grant from the State Emergency Management Agency that covered $46,000 of the total cost.

Mr. Kunze said the county has been waiting for a year for the generator to be delivered. It will be up and running just as soon as a transfer switch is installed, which is expected in the next few weeks. Once installed, it will provide emergency power to most of the Keller Building, which includes the county’s 911 and emergency management offices.
