The New Franklin City Council has three new council members. Sworn in at a special meeting held on Wednesday, April 20 were Seth Hallowell in Ward 1, James Painter in Ward 2, and Marybeth Sokolski in Ward 3.
Not one of New Franklin’s three city council incumbents filed for re-election. David Breshears, John James, and Walter Banks all declined to file.
Painter won the Ward 2 seat after receiving five write-in votes. No candidate had officially filed for that seat.
Hallowell and Sokolski each ran unopposed.
New Franklin waited until the election was officially certified by Howard County Clerk Shelly Howell before the new members were sworn in. A special election was held to welcome the three new members. Their first order of business was approving a new contract with the Howard County Public Water District, and the contract for city policing with the Howard County Sheriff’s Department (see full story).
The Board of Aldermen meets regularly on the second Monday of every month at 7 p.m. at City Hall. Meeting are open and the public is invited.
